JOHN Burnett MP states (Times, February 7) that he will not be voting against foxhunting. Yet in the next breath tells us that as a gentleman farmer he does not allow hunting on his land.
Foxhunting is barbaric and inhumane, moreover the Burns Report states that only six per cent of the fox population are killed in this way.
This clearly illustrates that foxhunting is not an effective method of keeping the fox population under control and so dispels just one of the myths that pro-hunters and, it seems, Mr Burnett like to present to the rest of us.
Mr Burnett's position is both weak and hypocritical and I urge him to follow his conscience and vote against hunting. There are more people in Torridge and West Devon against foxhunting than he thinks.
So, come on, Mr Burnett, do what is right for those of us who want to live in a civilised society and vote to ban foxhunting.
