AFTER reading Jane Honey's article (June 20) on misgivings over major homes bid, although I agree with all of the councillors' comments at the meeting, I would like to raise the following points:-
We cannot have more people moving into the area when all public services are stretched. Our main hospital, Derriford, is at breaking point, especially the A&E department, GP surgeries are full to capacity, police and fire services are at their lowest levels and councils with their small budgets are struggling to maintain services; one that comes to mind is road surfacing.
If Tavistock was run as a commercial company, people living in the town would have to be made redundant and moved out. As we cannot do this and to keep the status quo, we should not be considering enlarging the population in the area until
the financial situation improves. This means no more major developments for the time being.
