IT?S finally happened ? the pannier market has banned all societies, charities etc. Of course, we have seen it coming with the building of units a few years ago, which have recently been added to. Presumably the intention is to fill it with fixed units and make it a carbon copy of Plymouth?s. It bears out what I have been thinking recently, that plans for the town apply mainly to commerce. A thriving economy is necessary, but do we really want Tavistock to be known mainly as a business centre? What we need are more Ted Sherrells on the council ? more people able to take a balanced view. As for the traders, surely fairs, exhibitions etc can only profit them by bringing people into the market? As for as using the town hall, this is not viable as it is not sufficiently accessible. I thought the town council did a pretty good job ? that thought has now changed. Eddie White Westbridge Cottages Tavistock
