I HAVE just seen the Facebook page condemning Councillor Oxborough for his opposition to Tesco. I believe he is right. We do not need another supermarket in Tavistock. We have four already. Any more will kill the town centre. I think those that are supporting the Facebook page are not taking into consideration the importance of maintaining a viable town and are acting on purely emotionally selfish motives. Mike Fitzpatrick Bellever Close Princetown I CANNOT believe that this judicial review has been lodged by Cllr Robert Oxborough and Morrisons supermarket chain, after the council gave permission for the Tesco store in the old Focus building. The new Tesco store offering over 100 new jobs and bringing a big name to Tavistock, keeping shoppers local and breathing much needed new life into the town! Cllr Oxborough's backward thinking can only cost the town dearly by restricting growth and turning away willing employers who are offering jobs and in the unlikely event the review were to be upheld, cost the West Devon council tax payers hundreds of thousands of pounds. It looks to me that Cllr Oxborough is clutching at straws. As a councillor he would know the procedure to speak or present evidence to a planning meeting and if I had information I wanted to present as evidence, I would stand up in the meeting and say what I wanted to say as any normal person would, whether it was noted or not. I believe this a very weak defence to launch a review. I cannot believe that the council hasn't suspended Cllr Oxborough. I would publicly like to ask Cllr Oxborough, who else is involved with the review? Who is bank rolling it? Has he declared an interest in council at the appropriate time when voting on this issue, as he is also a member of the chamber of commerce and we know their leaders' stance on the new Tesco store.
