THE Ordulph Arms was the venue for this season?s Whitchurch Wayfarers Cricket Club presentation night. Chairman Dean Elliott introduced club vice president and ECB Club Development Manager, Edward Leverton and Nick Henderson representing club sponsors Mansbridge and Balment as the special guests to make the presentations. The most successful team of the year were the Under 11s, managed by Steve Hodge and Nigel Barriball. For the first time in Whitchurch Colts? history, a junior side won the league and cup double. The under 13s also had a good season narrowly missing out on the league, while the under 15s fell away at the end due to problems with player availability. Leading the way with the trophies was Tom Sherrell who was the U15 batsman of the year and also collected the coveted Pedrick cup for Colt of the year. The most improved player was Luke Northmore, adding his name to the Beaver cup, immediately after his brother won the same cup last season. The senior sides had a much tougher season, but survived to be playing at the same level next year. The first XI best batsman was once again Martin Credicott, who edged out Matt Witcher with an unbeaten ton in the last match of the season. Shaun Daymond, last year?s best second team bowler, stepped up a level to claim the first xi equivalent and most improved player, while the Credicott family were awarded the captain?s player trophy. In the seconds, Joel Heatley won the batting and was pipped to the bowling award by Neil Tamblin, with Andy Alford deservedly being named Captain?s player. The ladies? season was significantly affected by the weather, but enough games were completed for Lesley Smith, Cathy Griffin and Eloise Jones to collect awards. Babette Jackson then presented a new award, in memory of her husband John, to the club fielder of the year. The inaugural winner was Ollie Macrae, who through the season had effected many superb catches and run outs. Finally, the Chairman presented the Clubman of the year award to Alan Pedrick who has worked tirelessly redecorating the pavilion and completing the club?s paperwork for the ECB Development Plan.
