WEIR Quay Sailing Club has been holding the fifth race of its spring series in typical British summer weather with four seasons in one race.

Immediately after the start in a brisk south easterly, a squall came through with strong winds, heavy rain and thunder and lightning, to be almost immediately followed by sunshine and a drop in the wind, with most of the race being held in calm conditions, followed by a wind filling in from the north west.

Six boats made a good start on the triangular course on the River Tamar with Robin Musgrove in his Wayfarer getting away and heading the fleet.

Behind was a good tight race between young Tom Brooks racing his Topper for the first time and Steve Kirby in his Gull.

At the end of the race the two boats were only separated by seconds on corrected time.

Back down the fleet, a tight competition took place between Tessa Clarke and Ian Brooks in Mirrors and Peter Judd in his Heron with Ian Brooks coming out in front and the fleet completing two laps.

Results: 1, Robin Musgrove, Wayfarer, 47 mins 13 secs; 2, Thomas Brooks, Topper, 55 mins 27 secs; 3, Steve Kirby, Gull, 55 mins 41 secs.
