MY family regularly spends time around Burrator Reservoir across all the variable seasons, not just with the hordes who appear in better weather.

It is noticeable how the wildlife becomes scarce when the people come in. For that reason we attended the presentation to Burrator Parish Council by South West Lakes Trust.

During the meeting, I asked Mr Hembrow (three times), specifically whether South West Lakes Trust had any intention to build a visitor centre at Burrator, or if they intended acquiring the lodge from South West Water.

On each occasion he confirmed that they had no intentions and would only do so if the research from the consultation found a requirement to do so. He also invited the public to meet with him at the lodge on a series of dates which he circulated and said would be published in the local press.

I asked those questions because earlier that day, whilst at Land Registry on another matter, an officer allowed me to view a progressing conveyance of the lodge from South West Water to South West Lakes Trust which had started months earlier. I was surprised that Mr Hembrow was not aware of this in his answers.

On June 2 my mother and sister waited for some time in the glorious grounds of the lodge for Mr Hembrow, but he failed to turn up and doors were locked. Whilst we had not seen any revised dates in the press, he could have published his cancelled intention to be there.

Your report of July 11 suggests South West Lakes Trust now state they plan to have a visitor centre — before the consultative process has even started.

Personally, I have lost all respect for the integrity of the trust's statements and will not acquiesce. I simply invite all people who love the area or are involved with the consultation, to watch with interest and a degree of caution, what now unfolds from a built-amenity driven survey conducted among seasonal, superficial visitors to the area.
