A WEST Devon falconer is appealing for help, after two of his birds made a bid for freedom last week. David Buncle of Mary Tavy said a panel on one of his aviaries fell foul to last Friday night's gale-force winds — and two of his falcons flew from home. The birds — Psycho and Khamsin — are Peregrine and Arabian Saker falcons. They are about the size of a crow but similar in colouring to a pigeon, with very dark eyes. David said: 'Because they are trained birds, they are very likely to be seen sitting on a telegraph pole, or a roof — one of them is actually very keen on barn roofs. 'They probably won't have travelled a great many miles — I think they are likely to be in the general area, but I haven't had any reported sightings of them yet.' David said the falcons could fend for themselves if they needed to. 'They would first of all think of getting food from humans though — that's why I think there's a good chance of people seeing them, because they are likely to sit there looking at people,' said David, who asked anyone sighting the falcons to call him as soon as possible, on 01822 810112. 'If I can locate them I shouldn't have much difficulty getting them back — they'll probably be quite glad to see me,' he said.
