TAVISTOCK?s annual Goose Fair takes place next Wednesday ? and special arrangements for traffic and parking have been put in place to cope with the thousands of visitors expected to flood into the town. Plymouth Road and Bedford Square will be completely closed to traffic on fair day, and the fair will fill the Guildhall car park, Bedford car park and the Wharf car park ? the latter two car parks will be closed from this Saturday. During Goose Fair, West Devon Borough Council?s car parks in Russell Street, Chapel Street and Riverside will also be closed. Abbey car park will be available for blue badge holders only ? charges will apply. ?No parking? cones will also be set out in many streets, so the town council is encouraging visitors to use the park and ride scheme being run by Tavistock Lions and Plymouth-Tamar Lions clubs. A spokesman for the council said: ?There will be a high police presence in Tavistock during this period and illegally parked vehicles will be removed without delay. ?Vehicles parked causing an obstruction will also be deemed to be illegally parked, and heavy fines plus a storage fee will be incurred for recovery from the police compound.? The park and ride scheme will operate from Yelverton Aerodrome, Lumburn Rise on the Callington Road and at Harford Bridge Holiday Park near Peter Tavy ? yellow AA-type signs will identify the car parks. There will be designated areas for disabled drivers and a small wheelchair access bus will operate from Yelverton. The spokesman said: ?Target Travel will be co-ordinating the bus services and will run frequent shuttle services to strategic points in the town centre from the park and ride locations. The service will operate between 9am and 10.30pm, depending on demand.? A flat rate of £5 will cover the return bus journey to Tavistock for all occupants of a car parked at Lumburn or Harford Bridge.
