POLICE are warning of distraction burglaries occurring in West Devon and the South Hams. A single male is posing as an official from the water board and is targetting elderly residents. He claims he has had to turn their water off and suggests they fill their bath and use pots and pans for water. While they are filling their bath, the man makes his way around the house and takes money or items. In the most recent case, £25 was stolen from a house in Dousland. Police advise residents that if they are not happy with a person calling at their door they should phone the company he claims to come from or dial 999.
