CITY visits, a skittles evening and moorland walks were all on the menu for a group of French students visiting Tavistock College on an exchange visit recently.
The college has had close links with the Lycée St Vincent in Rennes for five years and each year students from both schools spend time sampling life in West Devon and Brittany.
'It's a brilliant exchange, it's been very successful indeed,' said Anne Bloomfield, head of department at Tavistock College.
She said the French students went on trips to Exeter, to the High Moorland Visitor Centre at Princetown and took a walk out onto the moors, the highlight of which was a slight mishap involving their teacher.
'She fell in the river and was up to her waist in a bog,' said Mrs Bloomfield.
The return visit for the college students is scheduled for June.
Mrs Bloomfield said the students have been in contact with their foreign counterparts since Christmas, either by letter or e-mail.
Once in France, they will have the opportunity to work on topics connected to their A-level and GCSE course work.
Previous exchange visits to France have included trips to Loire Valley chateaux, Mont St Michel, Futuroscope near Poitiers and the Rennes football stadium where students met the resident team.
Teacher Jill Norris said: 'The students who take part in the exchange have the opportunity to practise and improve their French, as well as to experience a different culture and find out what life is like in French homes and schools.
'A number of students have remained in contact with their exchange partners and continued to visit them on an individual basis, forming lasting friendships.'
