THE biannual Edogawa Youth Wings programme took place between July 21 and 30 when 20 students and two leaders from Edogawa ward in Tokyo stayed with students from Tavistock College.

Tavistock mayor Robin Pike held a reception at the town hall to welcome the Japanese students before they started their programme of activities, including studying English at the Alexander Centre, horse-riding on Dartmoor, visiting Exeter Cathedral, Morwellham Quay, Lydford Gorge, Tintagel, and having a cream tea in the Bedford Hotel.

Most of all the students enjoyed the hospitality of the Tavistock host families who looked after the students and built long-term friendships.

In November, 30 students and three teachers from Tavistock College will go to Tokyo for two weeks to mark the 80th anniversary of Momijigawa Senior High School, the main Tokyo host exchange school.
