THERE?S still time to take part in the Devon Youth Games, which is being staged in the county next month. Team West Devon is on the lookout for more boys and girls born in 1992 or 1993 to play in its basketball team. Trials are being held at Parklands Leisure Centre in Okehampton on Wednesday May 25 from 5pm to 6pm. The borough is entering for eight sports events. West Devon Borough Council sports development officer Tammy Messenger, the team?s manager, said: ?The ability and numbers of children involved this year far exceeds last year and the coaches have had a much harder job to select their squads for the day. It?s brilliant to see more children being active in sport and keen to develop their skills further.? Mary King, who won a Silver Medal as part of the GB Equestrian three-day event team at the Athens Olympic Games will be opening the Youth Games on Saturday June 25. The event, which attracts more than 1,000 young people is being staged in Newton Abbot and is being sponsored by DML, and funded by Sport England.
