THERE is more to do on Dartmoor this half-term with a variety of walks and events under Dartmoor National Park Authority?s guided walk programme.
The programme ? running from Saturday, February 22 to Sunday, March 2 ? will cater for a wide range of abilities, exploring everything from ancient tracks to Dartmoor?s industrial past, and includes special events organised for children and families. Walks are led by the authority?s guide service and rangers.
Children can enjoy Ranger Ralph?s Winter Warming Walk ? two hours ? on Saturday, February 22 or Junior Map and Compass ? three hours ? on Thursday, February 27. Both events require advance booking.
On Sunday, March 2, why not join the Children?s Dartmoor Discovery Trail ? two hours ?at Hound Tor?
There are plenty of opportunities for all ages and abilities, including a high moorland walk, exploring Dartmoor?s military and industrial past ? four hours ? on Sunday, February 23, and Haytor Quarries ? three hours ? on Friday, February 28.
For those who want to get their bearings in the art of navigation there is a Beginner?s Guide to Map and Compass ? five hours ? on Sunday, February 23 and Improvers? Navigation ? four hours ? on Tuesday, February 25. Both these events require advance booking.
The Authority?s guided walks are free to those who arrive by public transport, just show your ticket to the guide.
