A FUNDRAISING walk across Dartmoor will be taking place on Sunday February 21, to raise money for Dartmoor Search and Rescue.

The annual walk, named 'Twelve Across Two Down', because it visits 12 crosses East to West and 2 crosses North to South, has been organised by the Plymouth Dartmoor Search and Rescue Team (DRST) to raise funds for the organisation.

The money raised will go towards vital equipment and the running costs the team incur by being available to respond to lost, missing, vulnerable and injured people across Devon and Cornwall.

The route follows an ancient track called the Maltern Way, used by monks to cross the moor between the two abbeys of Buckfast and Tavistock.

Anyone wanting to take part must be equipped with at least a map, compass, torch food, fluids, whistle, waterproofs and a hat and gloves. At least one team member must have basic navigation, compass and map-reading skills.

The walk will start at 9am — no walkers will be allowed to start after 9.15am and the cut-off time for the finish will be 5pm.

A minimum donation of £6 is required from everyone wishing to take part in the walk. For more information visit http://www.dartmoor-rescue.org">www.dartmoor-rescue.org, or contact Richard Thorne by emailing [email protected]">[email protected]
