A NEW Nordic walking course, supported by the Tavistock 5X30 initiative, will be starting on Thursday mornings from May 8. The course will consist of six weekly sessions on Dartmoor, and has been designed as an introduction to the Scandinavian sport of walking with poles — using 90% of the body's muscles, burning significantly more calories than ordinary walking, and without the risk of injuries from running. The 5X30 initiative encourages people to do 30 minutes of exercise five times a week. The cost of the course, which consists of six two hour walks, will be £40, including tuition and the use of poles.
