MORE than 100 pupils, friends and families set out on the Mount House sponsored walk to raise funds for the Dame Hannah Rogers Trust in Ivybridge.

The 10km walk this year was more challenging than usual, involving climbing 1,200ft from the school to Great Mis Tor. There were hot dogs and other refreshment stops en route and at the finish at Four Winds car park, where the Mount House Association also provided a welcome glass of beer for the adult participants.

The youngest walker to walk the whole route was Rosie Molyneux, 6, sister of Mount House pupil, Jonathan. Other young walkers were form 1 pupils Jessye Philips, Agatha Cox, Tess Campbell-Bareham, Joseph Du'Gay and Crispen Newman. Fastest finishers were Finlay Rose, Oscar Norris, Harry Sale, George Andrews, Tom Kidner, Ralph Lopes and Marcus Watson.

Several children who could not take part in the walk itself found ways to raise money for the cause. The U13 girls' hockey team was in a tournament at Blundell's School and were sponsored per goal, and Will Partington who was injured, was at one of the highest points on the walk, collecting signatures of walkers on a card that will be sent to the children at Dame Hannah Rogers. He was sponsored per signature.

Mount House headmaster's wife Jo Massey, who organised the walk, said: "We have been delighted by the response from teachers, children and their families. We have already collected over £1,500, and there are more contributions to come. We were grateful too to the Dartmoor Rescue team who provided a sweep team for the walkers.'
