RESIDENTS in Tavistock north will be able to cast their votes today (Thursday) for the election of a new member of the town council.
The vacancy of a seat representing Tavistock North on Tavistock Town Council came after the resignation of former councillor Sue Bailey.
The candidates competing for the role are Peter Squire and Heath Lees.
Peter Squire was born and raised in Tavistock. He was the chair of Tavistock Employment Resources’ Group in 1986, chair of governors at Tavistock Community College in 2004, and has 31 years experience in Devon Social Care, including social work and for the NHS as a health manager.
He said: ‘I am seeking to enhance Tavistock as a vibrant, welcoming place to live and work. I can be seen in the square on occasions feeding pigeons. Please approach me at any time.’
Heath Lees is a local family man and has lived in Tavistock for more than 30 years and worked in the town centre for 22 years. His children attend schools in the town and are members of various community groups.
He said: ‘I care passionately about our lovely town and only have the best interests of the town and its people at heart.’
Residents of the north ward can cast their votes at the polling station at Tavistock Methodist Church, Chapel Street, from 7am to 10pm (no poll card required).
