A TOTAL of some 490 years worth of voluntary work was celebrated by the National Trust at Yelverton recently.

Awards were presented to 49 Trust volunteers at the special event at the Moorland Links Hotel, in recognition of ten years work at Buckland Abbey.

The awards were presented by Heather Carri, volunteer co-ordinator for the National Trust in Devon, who thanked the volunteers for their support and help throughout the years.

A talk on the restoration of the Abbey 50 years ago was given by Ron Price, who took part in the work that enabled the building to be opened to the public.

More than 200 volunteers work at Buckland Abbey throughout the year, undertaking a variety of jobs from gardening to guided tours and buggy driving.
