IT is said that the new owner of this wonderful tor wishes to exclude the public.
Your correspondents say they have been visiting Vixen Tor for 30 years. I have been going there for 65 years, without any challenge or written order to keep out, in order to climb the rocks and see the gentians later in the summer. As far as I know these are unique on Dartmoor.
I am amazed that an insurance company is worried about claims for injuries. There are countless rocks on Dartmoor where I could be killed or injured. Would the DNP or perhaps Prince Charles be liable for my injuries? Surely not, unless they had installed aids which failed or encouraged incompetent climbers to take risks.
I am not necessarily a supporter of the Right to Roam, but I do hope that the new law will open the gates (including the northern entrance which used to give a through route) although I fear I shall not be climbing the big rock again!
