Okehampton Columbines 3

Teignmouth 2

OKEHAMPTON got off to an indifferent start in what turned out to be an enthralling game of hockey.

Teignmouth took a deserved early lead from a well-taken corner. They were dominating and went 2-0 up before Viv Weatherington deflected in an Alex Collins cross just before half-time.

Debbie Pritchard had a strong game at half back bringing the ball forward out of danger to link up with her halves where Collins, Jane Jones, Claire Smith and Elaine Morgan all worked hard.

Up front Jo Moppett and Kelly Cooper ran tirelessly chasing every opportunity until a poor backpass from a Teignmouth free hit was picked up by Moppett and she scored a well-won equaliser.

In the final seconds Weatherington scored the winning goal.

This win sets Columbines up for their first league match away this week to Essanians at Liskeard.
