THE Friends of Bere Alston School held a wine and cheese tasting session at their recent well-attended annual meeting at the school.
Members of the Maynard Trust were in attendance, together with school head Kim Wild, governors, staff and members of the friends.
Vice-chair Gavin Walker explained how money raised at events over the past year had been spent. A promises auction raised more than £3,000. Other events including a Glam Rock Night, fashion show, discos, bulb sales and ?wear what you like? days, which helped to swell the funds.
Money had been allocated for swimming, playground equipment, the humanities, art, craft and cooking, science, classroom games, dressing-up box items, head lice packs and football team strips.
A parent had generously sponsored the school team?s rugby shirts.
Kim Wild thanked those attending and stressed that without the support the school received from ancillary bodies such as the friends, life would be very difficult. Planning financial priorities was a constant juggling act, and she was extremely grateful for the extra financial input.
