TAVISTOCK fire fighters are urging people to be careful when cooking, after they were called out to four chip pan fires this week.

On Sunday morning they went to an address in Buctor Park, where an unattended chip pan caught fire, causing significant damage to the kitchen.

The following evening the crew were alerted to three separate incidents within two hours.

The first was in Alder Road, Bishopsmead, where a grill pan had caught fire at around 5pm.

At 7pm two simultaneous calls came in for cooker fires. Crews from Tavistock, Bere Alston and Yelverton and a turn-table ladder from Plymouth were called out to a flat in Brook Street which turned out to be a chip pan fire.

Tavistock station officer Chris Neale said: ?If you have anything on the stove, be vigilant and don?t walk away. These incidents could have been a lot more serious.?
