MEAVY Flower Society's summer flower show, held last Saturday in Meavy Parish Hall, was very successful, with a high standard among the many entries.
Particularly well represented were roses and flowering shrubs, but there were also good displays of fuchsias and hanging baskets.
Judging of the entries was by the votes of the visitors, which entailed a team of ladies being closeted in a back room all afternoon counting the votes.
Society chairman Douglas Henderson thanked all the members of the committee and others who contributed to make a worthwhile show run smoothly. He praised the growers of the entries for their fortitude in contending with a difficult season of cool nights, excess rain and the return of rabbits.
Mrs Joan Down was introduced as a long standing and staunch member of the society, and was asked to present the trophies to the class winners.
