A 53 KILOMETRE ?virtual row? took place in Tavistock?s Bedford Square last Saturday, to raise money to build a new craft for the Tamar and Tavy Gig Club. The ?course? represented the distance between the club?s base at Weir Quay out to Plymouth Breakwater, and back again. Club members and enthusiastic members of the public joined in the sponsored row on two rowing machines set up in the corner of the farmers? market. Rowing continuously throughout the morning, the distance was completed in four hours and seven minutes, beating a similar row held two years ago by six minutes. Robin Musgrave of the gig club extended a huge ?thank you? to everyone who had taken part in the challenging event and said there had been some impressive performances from young and old alike. ?Special mention goes to young Kris Chapman who rowed for twelve minutes, completing an impressive 2.05 kilometres. ?A noteworthy contribution was also made by club member Matt Pinney, who rowed for four separate sessions and completed 5.415 kilometres of the course,? said Robin. Anyone who would like further information about Tamar and Tavy Gig Club should call Robin Musgrave on 01822 841064.
