FOOTBALL hardman, Hollywood actor and . . . Okehampton drinker. It's not every day a football legend and a Hollywood star walks the streets of Okehampton. It's an even rarer day when one turns up in a pub, spends all day there and buys drinks for the customers. Yet regulars at the Exeter Arms on East Street were more than happy to welcome ex-Wimbledon Football Club legend Vinnie Jones into their midst recently. Mr Jones secured notoriety on the football pitch by embodying the spirit of the 'Crazy Gang' in the late 80s and early 90s. His achievements in football included the fastest ever yellow card and famously 'getting to grips' with Paul Gasgoine. After his football career he went on to star in Guy Ritchie's films 'Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels' and 'Snatch' before gracing the screen with Nicholas Cage and Angelina Jolie in 'Gone in 60 Seconds'. Mr Jones, 43, turned up at the Exeter Arms to watch Chelsea play Arsenal on the pub's big screen. He spent more than six hours there, chatting with regulars, signing autographs and even joining in a game of poker. Landlady Lisa Mackintosh said: 'He was a really nice guy, very funny and witty. He joined in with the banter and was just like one of the lads. He seemed relaxed and looked to be enjoying himself — he even offered my mum money to buy the pub! 'He signed DVDs for us and said it was a lovely pub and that he'd be back if he was ever in the area.' RIGHT: Lock, stock, the whole lot — Vinnie Jones is pictured with Exeter Arms landlady Lisa and her daughter, Louise.
