A WEST Devon vineyard has welcomed a French student to learn about winemaking for an eight-week internship. Nineteen-year-old Bastien Leone has joined the team at Eastcott Vineyard, Northlew, to learn about agriculture. He is currently studying for a Masters degree in Agriculture at the ESITPA College in Normandy, and this is his second year work placement. He is required to see as many different types of agriculture during his course as he can, while learning English. Hilary Waller, of Eastcott Vineyard, said: 'Bastien is helping us to tend to the vineyard, work in the winery and entice people to buy our wine. 'So far he is proving to be of great interest to our customers and people on our guided tours, who are very amused to meet a French man selling English wine from the vineyard.' On Saturday, July 19, Bastien will be at the first of the vineyard's summer events, where he will be manning a stall at the Ruby Country Market at Hatherleigh. This will provide the opportunity for him to practise his language skills and tell people what he has learned about English wine.
