THE villagers of Bridestowe have paid their respects to the brave servicemen who fought for Britain's freedom in the First World War with an exhibition of First World War memorabilia. Proceedings started with a short service of prayers at the village's war memorial led by retiring methodist minister the Rev Graham Warmington. More than 40 residents turned out to pay their respects. Local historian Howard Barkell had spent several years researching the men whose names appear on the village memorial stone. The memorial stone was decorated with flowers. At the exhibition to remember their sacrifices, each soldier had a sheet of A4 with details of their war experiences and photos of their medals. People were able to find out details about their ancestors previously unknown to them. Howard's work was displayed in the chapel as well as photos, medals, swords and what is thought to be the last known photograph of Lord Kitchener.
