A CUPCAKE crazy fundraiser at Bere Alston recently raised a massive £1,660 for the Arran Tomes Support Fund to help a little boy with cancer.

The event was organised by the girls at Simply Hair and held at Hope Cottage. There were items for sale as well as a raffle and donations were also made.

Arran Tomes, whose father Michael grew up in Bere Alston and still has many family members living locally, was diagnosed with Non Hodgkin Lymphona earlier this year and is undergoing chemotherapy.

Arran will be five in June and lives in Hawkshead in the Lake District, after moving there from Devon.

Due to the nature of the lymphona, Arran is unable to walk and complains of discomfort in the lumbar region. His treatment is to due to last for seven to eight months and for this he has to travel to Manchester Children's Hospital, a round trip of five and a half hours in the car. The support fund was set up to help his parents with the travelling and other costs related to his illness.

The organisers expressed thanks to all the people of the Bere Peninsula for their donations, cupcake making and draw prizes.
