A new project aimed at promoting the health, fitness and wellbeing of Horrabridge residents is being launched this weekend. ?Healthy Horrabridge? is a community project to promote healthy life-styles, sponsored by ?UnLtd?. It is being co-ordinated by resident John Howells, formerly head of physical education and sports sciences at the College of St Mark and St John. The object is to improve general health and fitness levels by focusing on health, diet and exercise, and broadening the range of healthy group activities available to the community. Organisations and individuals in the village will be encouraging everyone to become involved, either as leaders or members of groups. The launch weekend starts on Friday, when Horrabridge Primary School will focus its lessons for the day on ?Healthy Bodies and Minds?, emphasising the importance of regular exercise, and a balanced diet ? both for meals and snacks. At 2.30pm, John Howells will open the Healthy Living Fair in the school hall ? which is shared with the community ? when leaders of the various groups will have the chance to interest fellow residents in what they have to offer. Visitors will also be able to check their own Body Mass Index, so they can monitor their progress towards fitness. Saturday will see sporting events in the village, starting with ?Quick Cricket? in Fillace Park, then moving into Weir Park for a tug-of war contest, a fun run by the Friends of Horrabridge School, and at 3pm the Beer Barrel Race. Horrabridge residents are urged to come to the school on Friday afternoon to see what activities are available. If they want to try something that?s not yet on offer, they can start a group themselves ? and there?s funding to help.
