A PIG, eight turkeys, twelve chickens and 30 fruit saplings are the practical gifts which will be bought with the proceeds of a village carol singing event held in Bere Ferrers recently.
The event, which was organised by Bere Ferrers resident Jane Musgrave, raised £113 which enabled the Send a Cow charity to purchase the gifts for families in need in East Africa.
The innovative scheme has on-going benefits for the area.
A condition of the gift is that the first female offspring is given to help another poor family, providing a knock-on boost in the area.
It was the fourth year the village carol singing has been held in the village to support lesser known charities.
