TAVISTOCK Bowls Club men's section won the final of the Littleton Cup for the first time last week against Plympton.
Mike Allen and his team of Rob Bowhay, Wallace Northey and Clive Jago paved the way for the victory with a comprehensive rink win.
The other rinks were all close until the last few ends when they started to drop shots making for a tense finish.
The ladies are also doing well in the league, being third in a strong first division.
Last week, despite winning overall against Plympton Birds, they only managed to win on one of the two rinks, so gaining four points.
The win was achieved thanks to a good result from Yvonne Meneer assisted by Jenny Tremaine, Hazel Lovell and Jean Flay.
In mixed matches the club had a comprehensive win over Looe thanks to Ron Cooper's rink of Gordon Northey, John Timmins and Clifford Hicks.
Bere Alston were a different matter with Tavistock going down in a closely fought match against their local rivals.
The men's match against a Plymouth and District representative team had to be abandoned when heavy rain made the green unplayable after six ends. At the time Tavistock were just in front.
