Dartmouth 0
Tavistock 5
TAVISTOCK ladies' hockey team played their penultimate match away to Dartmouth. It opened with Dartmouth heavily on the attack and Tavistock's midfield looking on in amazement as the opposition found gaps.
The game was spread evenly between the two teams and Tavistock knew they were going to have to pull out all the stops if they were to win.
Kath Collar and Emma Bowden had some good runs and were able to feed the ball into the D, which enabled Laura Armstrong to score the first goal for Tavistock. After a team talk, Tavistock returned to the pitch more determined. It was not long before they scored the second goal, again from Armstrong. The ball was fed from Bowden to Sue Cork who saw Armstrong waiting in the D, unmarked. She crossed and Armstrong put the ball past the keeper without any trouble.
Lisa Hogan and Becky Hutton passed the ball down the wing allowing Hogan to cross the ball and Judy Smallacombe hooked it in past the keeper, taking the score to 3-0.
Bowden scored the fourth goal. As Collar and Cork fed the ball in Bowden took advantage of the gap and hit a hard penetrative strike past the keeper.
Fiona Dunn, Sandra Collar and Sue Hornby prevented the opposition from making any worrying attacks and this allowed Tavistock to push hard, Hutton and Collar working the ball up the pitch for Lisa Hogan to score the fifth.
This result should stand the team in good stead for their final league match this week.
Player of the match: Laura Armstrong.
This week Tavistock are home to Plymouth Seconds with a 1pm start. All support welcome for their final match.
