THE Victorian era returned to Dartmoor last Friday when the story of Conan Doyle's Hound of the Baskervilles was recreated at Laughter Hole House — Lafter Hall in the famous novel. The actor Edward Hardwicke (left) joined guests at the event where the emphasis was on fun — Mr Hardwicke played Dr Watson in the Granada TV series and his is considered to be the most popular portrayal of the role. He and Holmes (David Brookes) are shown with guests about to enjoy dinner. The Victorian five-course meal, mainly based on Mrs Beeton's recipes, included Prince of Wales soup and Nesselrood Pudding. The event, 'The Baskerville Dining Experience', is a new concept on tourism in the region, making the most of Dartmoor's literary heritage by reliving the novel in its original location.
