PEACE campaigner Bruce Kent attended a meeting in Tavistock recently, part of a national tour being undertaken by the vice president of the Campaign for Nuclear Disarmament. His tour of the country is to promote the Abolition 2000 petition, which is pressing to get rid of nuclear weapons worldwide. The tour aims to draw attention to the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty Review Conference, which is due to take place in New York this May. Mr Kent will take the petition, which local dignitaries were invited to sign, to the United Nations. Gill Gorbutt, who chaired the meeting, said Mr Kent spoke very well on the beliefs of CND. ?He stressed that if we all spent more money looking after our societies and less of the billions that are spent on nuclear weapons, the world would be a much safer place,? said Mrs Gorbutt. ?I personally think it?s good this is said from time to time, to remind people. ?We had a good audience of people ? but I think it was a shame there were not more members of the churches and local councils there, who were personally invited to sign the petition,? said Mrs Gorbutt.
