Topsham Town 1

Okehampton Argyle 3

OKEHAMPTON put recent off-the-field events behind them to win this game. Two first half goals in six minutes should have set the seal on it, but Argyle took their foot off the pedal and allowed Topsham to get a grip.

The first half started well with Argyle taking control with some fine football. They were one up after nine minutes. A forceful run by Robbie Sandercock gained a corner. It was sent in by Stuart Cann and Adam Mortimer rose to head home.

Six minutes later Danny Maddax was on hand to make it 2-0. Argyle then started to sit back thinking the game was all but over, and started to play the long ball game. This allowed Topsham to get a foothold.

But good defensive play by Argyle stopped any Topsham chances until just before half-time when with their first real shot on goal they scored.

The second half continued much along the lines of the first with both sides evenly matched. Luck was not on Argyle?s side - Mortimer had a shot cleared off the line. Neil Agnew had a rocket of a shot come back off the post, hit Mortimer on the chest and then saved by the thankful keeper as he lay on the floor.

A cross from Daniel Johnston was parried on to the crossbar by the keeper who then caught it as it fell. But his luck was not to hold out for much longer.

With just over five minutes to go a blocked shot fell to Michael Vernon and his shot found its way into the goal to make it 3-1.

Recent signing Shaun Sandercock had a quiet debut. He took over from the injured Daniel Malcolm, who in a training accident damaged his knee ligaments and will be out for the rest of this season. The club?s best wishes go out to him for a full recovery.

This Saturday away to Witheridge. Players to meet at the car park at 1pm.
