VANDALS uprooted goalposts and threw picnic tables into the river at Bridestowe?s sporting green.
Parish council chairman John Leonard said the vandalism was thought to have happened on Sunday evening.
?It is terribly sad in a small village. I can?t think why they have done it,? he said.
?Mindless idiots have uprooted both goalposts and thrown the two picnic tables with seats into the river. One of the tables, worth about £100, is broken.?
Mr Leonard said it would take time for the goalposts to be replaced as the ground was too wet. ?It means the sensible kids who haven?t done this won?t be able to play football.?
He said it took four people to lift the substantial goalposts.
The council has recently had the offer of a commemmorative seat for the sporting green.
?We might now have to review this if this sort of thing is going to happen. It?s absolutely mindless, and it?s such a nice village,? said Mr Leonard.
