A NEW project co-ordinator starts work this week to help get key projects in the Tamar Valley off the ground.

The Tamar Valley was selected as one of the nine pilot areas for the South West Regional Development Agency's Market and Coastal Town Initiative in September 2000.

Following a community event in June 2001, a draft strategic action plan was developed and in September 2001 SWERDA granted an aid package of over £90,000.

This money was to support some 'early win' projects and develop a project structure.

The new co-ordinator, Jane Osborne, said the Tamar Valley was very fortunate in having a wealth of individuals and organisations already working hard to help with the regeneration of this unique area.

She said: 'I am looking forward to working with an enthusiastic and supportive steering group to help compliment this process.'

The Key Initial Development Partners are Calstock Development Trust, Caradon District Council, Countryside Agency, Tamar Valley AONB, Tavistock Forward, SWRDA, West Devon Borough Council and WestDen.

The group is now looking for enthusiastic people to volunteer for the main steering group.

They should be interested in regenerating the area through the Market and Coastal Towns Initiative and a wide range of skills is needed for the group.
