Okehampton Men?s 1sts 0

PGSOBs 4

THIS was the final league game for Okehampton, who were hoping to go out on a high.

It started well, with defenders Mark Clapham, Darren Phare and Dave Dennis holding their ground, and keeping play in the centre of the pitch with the help of Richard Jones and Olly Tallowin.

But Okehampton?s valiant efforts were not enough to stop PGSOBs shooting past keeper Nic Kearly in what was almost his final game for the side.

A glimmer of hope came in the second half for Okehampton when Mark Parsons, unable to beat the opposing keeper, gave up his centre forward role to Dave Dennis, whose shot just crept wide of the post.

Good performances by Andy Finly and Paul Feehan and dazzling displays of skill by Phil Mellor and Simon Bourne could not tip the scales. The scoreline did not do justice to the passion and vigour with which Okehampton played.

Okehampton Men?s II 1

East Devon 5th 3

THIS, the penultimate game for the seconds, started off level pegging, with both sides having good opportunities.

East Devon opened the scoring with a shot that narrowly beat goalie Andy Harvey.

Strong play by Ian Miller and John Jarvis kept midfielders Paul Feehan and Martin Jones dominating the centre of the pitch.

East Devon kept coming and through a short corner got their second goal of the day.

Okehampton were not taking it lying down, with Mike Reynolds reviving the side and with the arrival of Colin Lethbridge, the team were back in it.

Excellent play on the wings by Stuart Jarvis and John Cross led the play into East Devon?s area, where Joff Feehan and Jones battled it out with the defence to allow Kit Boon to get one back for Okehampton.

But East Devon would not give in and managed a third goal, snatching the game out of Okehampton?s reach.
