AN early morning walk around Belstone will take place on Saturday, May 3 for the International Dawn Chorus Day, which is being held a day later. Leaving Belstone Village Hall at 5.30am, the walk will progress through a rich variety of habitats — open moorland, wooded valleys, Devon lanes — each with its own distinctive songsters. The question for the event will be 'can we beat the 36 species seen or heard on the first of these walks in 2003?' Breakfast will be served in the hall at the end of the walk. Participants have been asked to leave dogs at home and wear sturdy walking boots. There is no charge for the walk but donations will be welcomed for hall funds.
