ONE OF the most ambitious school improvement schemes in Devon will be officially unveiled today (Thursday). The £3-million development at Tavistock College has provided a new 16-class teaching block and allowed eight temporary classrooms to be removed. It will be officially opened by the chairman of Devon County Council, Des Shadrick. The new building, which took 13 months to complete, is now home to the departments of European and International Studies and Business Studies. All 16 classrooms are fully equipped with the latest technology, including computer-linked interactive whiteboards with 3D surround systems and projectors. The building also houses a state-of-the-art drama studio with computer-controlled lighting and sound systems. There is a sixth-form study area and an internal study area as well as a suite of offices for staff. Tavistock College principal Colin Eves said: ?The new block is proving a great success. ?Students, staff and parents have all told us what a positive impact the new facilities are having on teaching, learning and general welfare.? The opening of the new accommodation follows the college?s successful Ofsted report last year. Inspectors praised the good quality of teaching and learning at the college and highlighted the students? above average standards. They said students? attitudes and behaviour were good and relationships were warm and constructive throughout the college.
