WEST Devon artist Bernard Carter is staging a very special exhibition of his unique work in support of Children's Hospice South West. In 1989, publishers Webb and Bower (of Edwardian Country Diary fame) commissioned Bernard, who lives on the Bere Peninsula, to produce 378 paintings for the re-creation of a Victorian Birthday Book. He is also a Royal Horticultural Society silver medallist. The special collection of 20 botanical paintings will be displayed in Treyone's Kitchen Showroom in Tavistock from May 13 onwards. It is the first time Treyone, which also supports Children's Hospice South West, has used its showroom as a gallery. Sarah Maddever of Treyone said: 'A visit to Little Bridge House last year motivated myself and Robin Doyle, Treyone's managing director, to select the Children's Hospice South West as our chosen charity. We were very impressed both by the vital care the hospice offers to life-limited children, and the support they give to the whole family.  We are very excited about the exhibition and are proud to be displaying Bernard's unique work.' Bernard is making a donation to the Children's Hospice from every sale. He said: 'I am delighted to be associated with CHSW and Treyone Kitchen Specialists who have provided an unusual venue for this exhibition. The paintings for the most part reflect the kitchen environment, but it has also allowed me scope to create some compositions bordering on the unusual and pleasingly quirky!'
