MANY of last term's Tavistock College upper sixth students are heading off to university and taking on new challenges.

After summer successes in external A-level and advanced GNVQ examinations, many students are now starting higher education courses.

Some are holding deferred places 2001, shown in in the lists below. Two students have gained placements on the Year In Industry scheme: Tim Houghton and Jonathan Merret are both working for the next year at Centrax engineering company.

Isabel Berry completed a particularly successful year on the Year In Industry scheme last year when she worked at the Wrigley Company and won the regional award for Student of the Year.

Hannah Jones, Ben Goodman and Lawrence Clarke are also set for an especially challenging year as they prepare to leave for Ghana on the first stage of their Raleigh International Millennium Award project.

Director of sixth form studies, Geoff Orton, said: 'We wish all of our ex-students every success as they make the next step — whether they are taking up employment, taking a gap year, or moving on to college or university.'
