IN the days following the Service of Remembrance in Tavistock on Sunday November 9, I received several complaints that the two minutes silence that should have started at 11am, started earlier than it should have done. As the Remembrance Sunday Service is organised by the local branch of the Royal British Legion, the Tavistock branch, I, as chairman, am ultimately responsible if anything goes wrong on the day and I therefore apologise for the incorrect timing. However, as I am also the Branch Standard Bearer and I have to stand to attention with my back to the church clock during the service, I was not in a position to check the timing of events, this I leave to others. The incorrect timing of the two minutes silence was very unfortunate and should never have happened. However, in my opinion, it did not detract from the fact that the service was carried out in an honourable and decent manner in remembering our country's war dead with all the respect that their sacrifice deserves. Finally, I can assure all your readers and all the people of our town that next year the two minute silence will start at the correct time.
