A POPULAR West Devon summer fair could be under threat, unless new volunteers step forward to keep the show on the road.

Buckland Monachorum June Fair is held every summer and raises much needed cash for the local groups who participate in the event.

But the organising committee is desperately short of two key members ? and committee chairman Stephen Fryer said the situation cannot go on any longer.

?We?ve been trying to get a secretary for the best part of three or four months now and it?s definitely threatening this year?s show,? said Stephen.

?We?re actually short of two committee members, a secretary and someone to take on the running of the annual grand draw, which itself raises about £400 to £500.?

Stephen said Buckland Summer Fair has been running for many years, and originally developed from the annual May Revels held in the village.

Many local organisations take part in the fair and the profits at the end of the event are divided bet

He said the two vacant committee positions did not involve heavy workloads, although obviously, the closer the date loomed, the more there was to do.

?On the day you are flat out, but it?s good fun and you do get a buzz out of it,? said Stephen.

An extraordinary meeting has been called in an attempt to attract new committee members and decide the future of this year?s event, due to be held on June 12.

The meeting takes place in Buckland village hall on Thursday, March 11 at 8pm. All are welcome.
