MANY Abba tribute bands have been set up over the years but the Welsh group, Abba 2, is the closest that music fans will ever come to the real thing. In fact, the almost uncanny resemblance between the original Abba and Abba 2 is 'Bjorn belief'! Appropriately, 'Bjorn Belief' is the name of the amazing show which Abba 2 will be performing at The Wharf, Tavistock next month. Formed in Swansea in 2002, the band is made up of four accomplished musicians who not only sound like the famous Swedish performers - they look just like them too. Tina Williams, who is 'Anni-Frid', has been a singer with many bands. The rich, deep tones of her voice are well suited to Abba music as well as to the jazz numbers, which she also loves to sing. Lorraine Thorne ('Agnetha') is an experienced singer and song-writer. She has performed on television and radio programmes and has won several competitions, including the Unisong International Song Contest. 'Benny' is really Colin Evans, who trained as a concert pianist but prefers classical composition. He also has a keen interest in various musical genres and describes the music of Abba as 'a joy to play'. Peter Lloyd ('Bjorn') is a top, seasoned performer on the jazz scene in Wales. Recently, he was the lead guitarist in the Mojo Soul Band. In his spare time, he writes jazz pieces. Abba 2 will be performing all the great Abba favourites, including 'Waterloo' and 'Dancing Queen', at The Wharf on March 22 at 8pm. Tickets are priced at £10 (in advance) or £12 on the night.
