Carlsberg South Western League Cup 1st round Plymouth Parkway 2 Tavistock 1 THE Lambs have had good fortune against their Devon rivals in recent times. A win and a draw in the league last season plus knocking them out of the Cup. They had already taken three points off them this season in the league and were looking to extend this unbeaten run. The home side looked the more lively at the start and went ahead after just four minutes. Andy Meeds slipped as he took a goal kick but it travelled a good distance ? to the feet of Andy Sargeant who immediately shot the ball over a despairing attempt by the keeper. They almost went further ahead on 10 minutes when Gosling lost possession for the ball to be quickly moved forward for Marcus Crocker to put Sargeant away to round Meeds but he went too far to turn his shot back into the side netting The Lambs? first real chance came on the quarter of an hour. Glynn Hobbs shot at keeper Joey Sundercombe before Shane Krac and Chris Menhinick combined to set up Will Stringer to blast over the bar. Meeds did well to prevent Darren Lawton scoring when he cut in from the left to shoot from close range and Sargeant wasted a great chance as he chose to shoot instead of pass. Crocker then saw Meeds tip over an effort before the home side increased their lead just after the half hour. Appeals for offside were ignored when Martyn Sullivan was allowed to proceed and lay the ball off to Andy Gammon for Sargeant, who also appeared offside, to slot home for his second. The Lambs clawed a goal back just prior to the interval when a Hobbs shot ricochet to Will Stringer, raiding from deep, to shoot low past Sundercombe. There was still time for the home side to attack and a high cross in saw Gosling head back towards his goal and Meeds had to tip around the post. The second half had few clear cut chances. The home side looked dangerous on the break but could not find a way through and the Lambs continued to search for the all important equaliser. Stringer headed straight at Sundercombe from a Krac free kick with 15 minutes left. A Hobbs run across the area with 5 minutes remaining saw his pass go to Mark Conday but the front man shot hastily wide when possibly another touch would have seen a better finish. The Lambs kept up the pressure right to the final whistle forcing a series of corners and free kicks but it was not to be and the home side gained some revenge after recent results to progress to the next round in the New Year. Forthcoming fixtures: No Carlsberg fixture for the Lambs this Saturday as the scheduled game against St Blazey becomes the victim of six of St Blazey?s side involved in the Cornwall v Jersey game.
