THE UK Independence Party has selected a North Devon man as its prospective candidate for West Devon and Torridge. Robin Julian, 53, works part-time on an organic farm in Hartland which he bought five years ago. He served in the Army before becoming a long-distance lorry driver. Mr Julian and his wife, Debbie, have four grown up children. He has been a special constable for the past 13 years and has been active in the constituency, helping local residents to persuade Torridge District Council to introduce a door-to-door refuse collection service for new estates at Bideford. He said: I have experienced a great deal of life and this has helped me to appreciate what a wonderful country we live in and I am greatly saddened by the deterioration I have noticed over the past few years. ?So much of our lives is now affected by people we didn?t elect, have no control over and can?t vote out of office. ?Membership of the European Union now costs British tax payers over £8.5-billion every year and the EU Commissioners use our elected Westminster and local representatives to enforce EU legislation. ?The three main political parties are quite content to let this situation continue, but I passionately feel that for the sake of our children and grandchildren we should terminate our political involvement with the EU and enter into the trading agreement we were told we had signed up to in 1973.?
