Bude U10s 10
Okehampton U10s 10
DUE to the recent spell of bad weather this was the first time that the side had played since November 1 and it showed!
Okehampton simply could not get into their normal rhythm and poor defence soon saw them fall a try behind. This side is made of stern stuff however and they drew level with a try from Greg Daniel following a powerful run up the right wing.
More slack defence allowed Bude to nose ahead again but shortly before the final whistle, relentless pressure from Okehampton allowed Leon Horn to fall on the ball to score when it was spilled by the home side.
In the second match the boys played with much greater fluidity and finally realised that when the ball is passed through the hands tries will follow. They ran out 35-15 winners and tries were scored by Jack Chapman, Ethan Hoggins, Edward McCarthy, Corey Holiday, Leon Horn and a brace for Angus Cunningham - his first and second tries for the club. Player of the match was Edward McCarthy for some superb defensive work and a superb individual try.
Bude RFC U9s 15
Okehampton RFC U9s 10
OKEHAMPTON U9s returned to rugby after an enforced break of five weeks, travelling away to Bude. It was a sluggish start but Okehampton managed to score first, due to the effort of all the team, with Nathan Tomkins finally going over the line for the try.
Neither team was helped by the rain and cold, with more than the average amount of dropped balls and knock ons.
The rest of the match was quite closely fought with neither team really getting the advantage. Then Bude broke free on two occasions to go ahead in the second half.
Okehampton continued to press hard and were rewarded by a second try from Nathan Tomkins. It looked like Okehampton had equalled the score, only for the final effort to be disallowed.
Bude U8s 8 tries
Okehampton U8s 18 tries
OKEHAMPTON put in their best performance of the season. In the first ten minutes Bude matched Oke try for try but were unable to sustain this throughout the match. Okehampton exert more pressure on their hosts causing them to spill the ball thus allowing Oke to counter attack scoring some great tries.
Will Cunningham and Joshua Burgoyne both put in superb all round performances with Will scoring five tries and Joshua seven.
Dominic Strugnell, Saul Holliday and Liam Daintree all held the Oke's defensive lines well. Ben Wharton (2) and George (1), both looked dangerous in attack, Cole Pengelly (1), Jake Laing-Taylor (1) all raced away to score some well taken tries from inside their own half.
The try of the game was scored after some superb teamwork. Liam Daintree made a half break only to be tagged but a quick off load of the ball along the Oke back line through Will Cunningham and Harry Laing-Taylor resulted in a try for Joshua Burgoyne.
Oke showed great support for one another and worked really hard together to break down countless Bude attacks. Well done to the whole team.
