Whitchurch v Gunnislake
ON a damp wicket batting was difficult, with both sides' combined totals fewer than 160 runs in their game played on Saturday week.
Whitchurch batted first and throughout their innings lost wickets at regular intervals. Only Bill Tynan made a notable score (39) as the home side closed on 108 for 7, although wicketkeeper colt Charles Brereton did contribute a useful 14 not out. Gunnislake's four bowlers all returned good figures with Mike Hugo and Mike Reeve each taking two wickets.
Good bowling from Whitchurch's quartet of Kit Reeve, Graham Horler, Steve Wood and Neil Folley ensured Gunnislake were always tied down in their innings. The visitors were bowled out for just 49 in the 34th over. Dave Ansell stuck around for a long time for 18 and Hugo finished not out on 15. Whitchurch's main wicket takers were Wood (4 for 7) and Horler (3 for 8).
Whitchurch produced a good fielding display during which colts Ian Gay, Tim Watson and Tom Gruitt all did well and Josh Sutton claimed two catches.
Whitchurch gained 17 points as they won by 59 runs. Gunnislake gained 3 points.
